Default External IEEE1394 Drive converted to Dynamic

After converting the DAS to dynamic and reformatting, the dpm disk management
still does not show the drive available. Within w2k3 disk management the
drive is shown as dynamic, as well as within diskpart. Does the drive need a
specific volume format or is simple fine?

Is this an external/usb/firewire HD? If so, external HDs are not supported
and DPM will not detect them.

It is an external drive, however I do believe even though it is not
"supported" that there is a way to recognize external dynamic drives as it
was possible in the beta. Should the volume for the drive be set as simple or
should I mirror it against a recognized scsi drive?

lol :-) <grin> I would like to know too... The disk needs to be able to
convert to a dynamic disk for DPM, so......

lol I don't know much about hard drive types, but I suppose if there is
another driver besides one that marks it as 'external' or something, then
DPM might detect it. If you find anything that works, let me know!! :-)

(I saw something in the Exec chat a week ago, about Virtual Server and a
workaround?)

Hello,

Thank you for your posting!

DPM can use any of the following for storage pool capacity:

¡E Direct attached storage (DAS)

¡E Fibre Channel storage area network (SAN)

¡E iSCSI storage device or SAN

The storage pool supports most disk types, including Integrated Drive
Electronics (IDE), Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA), and SCSI,
and supports both the master boot record (MBR) and GUID partition table
(GPT) partition styles.

The storage pool does not support USB/1394 disks.

If you have any questions, please feel to let me know. I am glad to be of
assistance.
