Default I need to switch away from Eudora can some help find something as good or better

Hello,

I need to switch away from Eudora. The reason is Eudora can NOT handle
Network storage. ie \\server\share\folders\
I run my own active directory setup at home unfortently the Eudora runs to
slow and nearly crashes when doing anything, opening, closeing, sending a
msg, I mean everything. I need to do the folder redirection on application
data and other folders.

So I need something that won't lag like this.

The main needs!
Be able to handle multipule accounts - Minimum POP3 and SMTP
Each account has it's own POP3 account. Each account has it's own SMTP
account.
Must be able to filter by "persinality", to, from, cc, subject matter then
be put into folders.

You get the idea.

I tried Thunderbird but but it fails on multipule SMTP servers.

Any thoughts?

Rather it is for protection. I have been using Usenet for appox. 15 year and
have had some undesirable outcomes.

You have at least 2 problems:
1. Your in, out and trash mailboxes may be too full to allow Eudora to run
efficiently, or your machine has speed and memory problems.

Solutions (apart from getting a new machine):
a. Move just about all mail out of in, out and trash to alternate
mailboxes. Examine help for filters etc. That really works!
b. Compact the mailboxes. This is *essential* to do regularly. Why? When
you trash or move a message from one mailbox to another, the *only* thing
that happens to the old mailbox is that the toc file (table of contents)
of that mailbox gets notified to *not* display that message anymore. It
still *remains* in the mbx file. It takes computing power to parse the
files. Compacting the mailboxes finally clears the space (and memory)
occupied by those deleted/moved messages.

2. Not sure about your network storage. This may be a function of Eudora
and your OS. Have you tried mapping that drive to a local drive letter
and using that? My piece of crap Buffalo Linkstation is drive Y:, but I'm
not putting my precious mail on it.

It doesn't. It's rather unintuitive with multiple SMTP servers, but the
Show SMTP Username extension [1] takes care of that pretty well.

I decided to try Thunderbird and it's working great. The only thing I am
finding I can't do but maybe I am doing wrong is trying to filter outgoing
mail. IE if I send mail to someone@abc.xyz put into folder 123. I can't do
it unless I open the filter tool and manually run the filter on the sent
mail box. Not a huge deal but . . .

I do have the thank everyone in the group for helping me out esp since it
deals with me changing software away from the one this group is set up to
support.

Filtering out going mail in Thunderbird is a manual operation.
Thunderbird will not filter out going on it's own. Set up your
filters, then go to your sent box, then "tools" > "run filters on
folder" and your filters will take place. Thunderbird needs help on
it's filtering. Also, thunderbird has a send bug that will catch up
to you in time. When you send, TB will hang with the sending box
displayed. Just cancel and don't save. The email IS sent. You will
have to close TB then reopen and go to your sent box, which will
rebuild itself. You will see your sent email there. This is a bug
that has been around, but for some reason it isn't being fixed. It
doesn't happen all the time, just sometimes. May be that sometimes
makes it hard to find and fix.
