Default Will Beta versions Expire?

Now that the "final" version of Eudora is out, will the beta versions
stop working?

I like the spam filtering and will probably buy the new version, but
might want to wait a while for some special offer and/or the inevitable
immediate revisions that happen.

I don't recall seeing an expiration date for any of them.

I don't think waiting for a special offer is going to do much good. I
can't recall Qualcomm ever making special offers that way. When
you pay for Eudora, you're subscribing to a year's worth of updates
and tech support, so waiting for "immediate" revisions is not particularly
necessary. You're going to be entitled to any updates that come out for
the next year after whatever date you pay for it. There's enough
difference between the last beta where spamwatch worked in sponsored mode
and the release version that I'd advise using the release version now.

sold other than via downloads?

Decent argument.

I did not totally understand what those differences were -- although I
saw a lot of bitching about the icon changes. FWIW, I never use the
preview screen nor do I allow any of the automatic execution or download
of images in embedded HTML. It sounded like the changes from version
6.016 to 6.020 were in that area.

I do like the Bayesian filter spam catcher very much. It is doing
the same thing (but better) as my personally developed set of about 20
junk / spam filters full of regexp on headers , subjects and body.
Since I started using the JUNK feature, I am getting fewer than 10 spams
that my filters catch per day out of 200-400 spams per day. Even those
have a score in the 45 to 49 range.

Qualcomm doesn't sell boxed copies any more, and hasn't for a while. If
there aren't any boxed copies, it is hard to find a sale on them. It is
possible that places like CompUSA might be selling paid copies of Eudora
some other way though, and there are other sources of it. Earthlink was
giving away paid copies to new broadband subscribers for at least a while for example.

The differences that really matter are the various bug fixes for
problems with the earlier betas. The relnotes files for the betas listed
the changes between versions. I can find the one for the last beta and
send it to you if you'd really like to see it. The new icons are really a
non-issue since anyone who doesn't like them can just choose to use the
old ones instead, with a few minor exceptions.

Not particularly. I don't think anything at all changed with how embedded
links are dealt with. There were some bug issues with the preview pane
dealt with at some point in the betas though.

Yes, I think SpamWatch works quite well. A bunch of bugs in the junk mail
handling were fixed between 6.0.0.14 and the release version though.

Anyway, if you are going to pay for an upgrade, I'd just go ahead and do
it now if I were you.

I knew that was true, but had forgotten.

Yep<G>.

I've got that for version 0.016 (which is what I had installed), so
thanks but no thanks.

Perhaps soon as I get a round tuit:-}}

And thanks for you many comments, both to me and to others here. If
they aren't doing so already, Qualcomm ought to be paying you for your
excellent technical support.
