Excel 2002 (XP) startup load excel feature

why does this version of Excel install excel feature every
time I start Excel--in fact Word does the same thing--on
install choose to run nearly every feature from my
computer. Really annoying everytime I open an Excel or
Word file I have to wait for a dialogue box to install an
unspecified feature.
