Default migrate mailboxes to another domain (trusted)

hi all,
I have about 20 mailboxes from DomainA needs to be moved to DomainB
(trusted). Several of them are 2GB+. The only way that I know is to get the
pst from A then import them to B. Is there a better way of do this?

Thanks.

Hi Jeff,

Are you running Exchange 200X
Have you ran domainprep in your other domain?
Do you have just one Exchange server or two Exchange servers (One in each
domain)?

The procedure I use is to dis-associate the mailbox from the user account by
deleting it(Double check that you have mailbox retention enabled and set
before doing this) wait for Recipient update services (RUS) to run or run it
manually.

In Exchange System Manager check the Mailbox Store | Mailboxes look for the
dis-associated mailbox with cross on it. Right click on it and select
reconnect, reconnecting it to the account in the other domain.

If you dont have accounts in your other domain then migrate them by using
the Active Directory Migration Tool (ADMT)

Run RUS again sync the domain, then the mailbox will be associated with the
account on the other domain.

Some people have told me this procedure does not work because, permissions
SIDs are not changed/Added for the new Account in the other domain. But I
have used this procedure hundreds of times, without failure.

Regards

Thanks for you reply, please see my answers below.

also, the user name maybe not identical, say JohnDoe vs JDoe or JohnD. Will

Hi Jeff,

Ok orriginally it sounded like you wanted to leave the mailboxes on one
server but associate with user accounts on another domain.

Anyway if you want to move the mailbox to a different user on another
Exchange server different domain you can use ADUC just right click on the
user account Exchagne Tasks | Move Mailbox. Once moved give a little time
for replication, then with Exchange System Manager on the Exchange 2003 box,
dis-associate the mailbox by deleting (Remember to check mailbox
retension/deletion settings), wait a bit or run RUS, then find the
dis-associated mailbox then associate with account in new domain.

If you dont already have these user accounts in your new domain, you could
move them with the Active Directory Migration Tool 2.0 (ADMT), it will save
you alot of time, it can be found here:
