Default EntryID value in Exchange vs Stand-alone Outlook

Hi there,

To begin, I don't have any experience with Outlook Exchange.

I'm creating a VB.2005 Outlook synchronisation application to
sync with our own CRM database.
I identify an Outlook item by it's EntryID value.
With stand alone Outlook clients, this EntryID is unique per client.

Is this also the case with Outlook Exchange, just to be sure?
If different clients open the same, for instance, Outlook Contact,
will all their items have the same EntryID when they use Outlook Exchange?

This is very important for me to know for our synchronisation mechanism.

Thnx for your time :-)

Greetings,

No, the values of the entry ids can differ depending on how a particular
mesage is opened and by whom.
It is safe to assume that if a message is accessed by the same user in the
same way and you only retrieve long term entry ids, the entry id will stay
the same.
The format of the EX entry ids is not do***ented of course, but it it does
contain the values of the PR_SOURCE_KEY property of the message and its
parent folder. PR_SOURCE_KEY property stays constant no matter who or how
accesses the message/folder.
In case of MAPI, you can build an entry id given the two values of
PR_SOURCE_KEY using IExchangeManageStore::EntryIDFromSourceKey()
