Default What the...??? FTP access wierdness

Hola all,

I am new to ftp setup and I am having an issue with creating and moving
files between folders. The site is set to no anon login. If I log into the
ftp site as the ftp machine administrator it will only let me create a
folder, not a file. When I do create the folder, it won't let me move a file
into that folder unless I move it to the machine I am connecting from, then
to a sub folder. I'm sure it's something simple, but I've tried every logical
step I can think of. My male pattern baldness is growing by leaps and
bounds!!!!

Thanks to all

Check NTFS permissions. And use the command line FTP client so you
can see the response codes.

Hi Jeff,

NTFS permissions are 'everyone' has 'full rights'. The response code is
'550: Access Denied', which says it all. The problem is I am logged in as the
admin with full rights. Thanks for replying!!!

First, "Everyone" is a just a group, not "all user accounts on the
system". If your admin account isn't in the Everyone group then those
permissions don't matter.

Second, when do you get the 550? On a PUT? Logging in? And is this
Server 2003? If so, are you using user isolation?

also make sure that 'write' permission is enabled in the FTP site property.

This is on a 2k pro box. I've checked all my ntfs permissions. I have the
'write' permission set in the ftp site properties. I'm getting the 550 on the
put command. I'm trying to move a file on the ftp site to a virtual directory
and that's where I'm getting the error. The command is: put test.txt testunder
200 PORT command
successful
550 testunder: Access is
denied

I get the same problem if I use the gui. I can't click and drag or cut and
paste.

Thanks for your help.

In that case, get filemon (sysinternals.com) to trace it.
run it on the server, try ftp and upload again.

check who is the user writing the file and where was it denied.
