Default Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage, IE7, Help

I get this message in different parts of webpages, usually where an
adverti*****t goes. I have seen the whole message, not very often, only a
partial. It was a HTTP 500 message until I unchecked it in tools, etc, so
that I can read a better message, but they are almost identical. The message:

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage
Most likely causes:
you are not connected to the Internet (I am)
The website is encountering problems (not 100 different websites)
There might be a typing error in the address (no, this happened after
downloading IE7 and downloading MSN Messenger Live and then Live Plus)

What you can try:

Check your Internet connection. Try visiting another website to make sure
your are connected. (This has been going on for so long and on many many
websites)
Retype the address. (done that for weeks)

Go back to the previous page.

More information

Well that is the message and like I said, it usually just shows partial
message, like:

Yep, anywhere, usually a picture, adverti*****t, at the top of a webpage and
this is getting very disturbing. Does anyone know how I can get help free
through a phone number. I'm a home user with a laptop and use win xp home
edition and I usually use MSN Explorer for my browser (through Qwest, my
phone company) and now it sometimes happens in MSN Explorer,

Thank you very much, hope I did this correctly, this is my first time using
a forum like this

I had the the same problem for a specific website. I found out that my
anti-spyware was causing the problem, Webroot Spysweeper for MSN, which is an
excellent product by the way. The fix was that I disabled the TRACKING
COOKIES sheild. As an an alternative, you can enable the TRACKING COOKIES
shield, and in the OPTIONS, ALWAYS KEEP, you can check the box for the cookie
for that website, if you know the name of the cookie. If you don't know the
name of the cookie, it's just best to disable the the TRACKING COOKIES
shield. If anyone gets "PAGE CANNOT BE DISPLAYED" errors, I would suggest
they check their anti-spyware settings for whatever program they have, and
see if it is set to prevent cookies from being downloaded or kept. Good luck.

If your still having the problem, there's a page in the microsoft knowledge
base that's helpful, although it's somewhat technical. Just go to the
knowledge base (from the main microsoft page choose support, then the
knowledge base). In the search boxes, look in Internet Explorer 7, the look
for "Internet Explorer cannot display webpage". One of those articles has
instructions on things to try. One of the quick fixes is to rename your HOSTS
file, which may be corrupted. It is located at
c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts. Try renaming that file to HOSTS1, for
example. Another quick fix is to go to Internet Explorer options, then delete
all of your browsing history (including cookies and temporary internet
files). There are other things to try, but some of them a little more
detailed, Good luck.

I'm so sorry I can't get onto the computer at this time because of all the
company I have at my familys and can't be home to work on the problem until
after Christmas, but I need to thank everyone for their help and I will try
everything afterwards. I don't understand why they were going to shut down
my thread, but this Christmas is so busy with family and I thought the site
would give me time.
Thank You for understanding,

Yes, it's Spysweeper that's causing it. If you exit Spysweeper, you will
find that you will now see the ads, but who wants to see the ads? All that
you are not seeing are the pop-up ads.
