I created an SRV record to advertise my Live Commincaition server. My
clients are Clients are automatically connecting to IM.
Question:


If i have three Live Comm Servers in three different sites, how will my
clients know which IM server to connect to? If i create three different SRV
records, will my clients query each server?

In my experience, all the home servers can redirect users to their correct
home server.
If a user connects to a home server, the home server checks if the user is
homed on that server. If not, then the home server queries the information
and redirects the user to the correct home server.

In your case, if you want a centralized SRV entry you can install a
front-end server. The front-end server will use the SRV entry.
A front-end server is like a home server but doesn't have any users. Its
main role is to process registration and redirect users to their correct
home server.

Just like Exchange...if you are on the wrong server it will redirect you.

Just to follow-up:
When you go into User Services Properties for your LCS server there is a
radio button that has the proxy options. However, when you click the help
button it states not to change the settings. It would appear that there may
be FE/BE technology being built, much like exists for Exchange. There is
not a current way to setup LCS so that it does not service users and only
acts as a FE server (like OWA)...just don't home any clients on them.

Several large organizations are utilizing LCS and I imagine that as it grows
admins may want a FE/BE topology...even if to put us/our paranoid firewall
folks at ease. Granted, I haven't touched a PIX in 2 years.

following up on your points. I'm not clear -- is there a way to install LCS
as a front End Server or not?
if so, how? is there a special install option?

Front-end servers in LCS exist only to forward clients to their home server
according to the do***entation. They don't appear to proxy communications
as an OWA or Exchange FE servers do. Please read Page 32 of the LCS
Deployment Guide for more information.

However, just by poking around the places I mentioned earlier, in LCS 2003,
it does appear that the functionality is being built...but it is not in
place just yet.
