Default Server was unable to process request

I have been banging my head against this problem for 3 days now and frankly i
am at my wit's end.

I am trying to send an email based on a template, but i get an error
(soapexceptionerror) on when i try to instantiate my template.

The error i get within workflow monitor is very informative:

error code= 8004280b Server was unable to process request

I cannot find any actual error code references to get a more informative
description. I have searched and searched and searched but still have no
resolution for this problem. I see many other people in similar positions to
me do not have solutions either.

Surely someone out there must know what the problem is?? Microsoft???????

If you catch the exception as a SoapException and check out the details it
might give you a little more but often does not.

The other thing I do typically is look at the server trace - the following
KB tells you info on turning on the trace.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/907490/

This is a known fault with the MsCrm V3 SDK, when you instiante a new email
of a template, you receive a 'Xml not valid' SOAP Exception. The solution to
this is to obtain the hotfix from Microsoft, however this is on request only,
so you need to contact Microsoft Support to get the fix.

Hi thanks for replying
sorry i should have added this to the original post

CrmService crmsvc = new CrmService();
crmsvc.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials;
InstantiateTemplateRequest instTemplate = new InstantiateTemplateRequest();
instTemplate.TemplateId = new Guid("be09ef6d-62aa-da11-9f48-00508beb4295");
instTemplate.ObjectId = appointmentid;
instTemplate.ObjectType = EntityName.appointment.ToString();
instTemplate.ReturnDynamicEntities = false;

//ERROR OCCURS AT THE FOLLOWING LINE
InstantiateTemplateResponse instTemplateResponse =
(InstantiateTemplateResponse)crmsvc.Execute(instTe mplate);

Thanks

do you think this hotfix will solve my problem anyway?

Default Server was unable to process request

Apologises, re-reading your question it sounds like your trying to send the
mail via Workflow rather than the SDK - if so, then the patch is probably of
no use.

When using the SDK to create a new 'email' object from the
'InstanitateEmailRequest' request object, you always receive a SOAP Exception
- of which the inner message reads 'Entity Xml not valid'. After the hotfix
has been installed, the SDK is updated and the same code no longer causes
this error.

If you are experiencing problems sending email from a template through
Workflow, I'd check the email template and also who (if anyone) is been CC'ed
or BCC'ed on the email. I've set up emails through workflow quite a few
times on non-patched MsCrm servers, so not quite sure what could be going
wrong - if you post the template, the 'type' of template, and who is CC'ed or
BCC'ed; then this might be able to shed a bit of light on things.

Default Server was unable to process request

Hi there

yes, i am trying to send this email through a workflow process. I had
thought about the fact that the template itsself was causing the error so i
tried to instantiate one of the CRM standard templates to no avail.. i still
received an error. I tried again this morning to make sure (since tracing
activated) and the error i get is different in my soapexception
message(below) and my tracing seems to be much the same (below below).

This email was the "case escalation" template which comes with CRM. It
could very well be something i am/am not doing before calling
instantiatetemplate but i dont know what that could be..
