Thanks very much for all these suggestions. It helps a great deal to hear
from you all that this should work and you don't see anything wrong with the
code. If not for the members of this group, people like me trying to
implement CRM by themselves would not have anyone to talk with about
problems.

After hearing that the code should work and there are no "tricks" with
customized fields...I re-examined my field names (for the 20th time) and
finally realized that in one case I did have a typo and in other cases I was
switching back and forth between the field name and the schema name for the
custom fields (unfortunately they had different names) as I was unsure which
to use. So when I would comment out different combinations of fields during
testing I became confused into thinking that none of the custom fields worked
while all of the regular fields worked fine.

Bottom line is everything is working fine now...I finally have my first Post
Callout sending messages to MSMQ and my first Windows service reading the
messages and fetching data from CRM to update an external system
database....just like the Northwind integration example in the CRM 1.2 SDK.

I feel pretty good today whereas three weeks ago I thought my career was
over ) Thanks to all the help and support from members of this group.
