Its not VB6 Service Pack 6 you need.

You shouldn't install this service pack if you don't have Visual Studio 6
already installed

Maybe you need one or more of the controls, but they are available from SP 4
or 5. Just the updates versions are in SP 6

Yes, you won't have much joy registering that dll because you need the
registry patch (license) file or it won't work. That file is on the Visual
Studio 6 CD 3, but I saw it also on a Japanese site for download.

In my experience installing that reg file won't do any good now. Not sure
what to suggest, but installing VB 6 SP 6 wasn't the correct move

Thanks very much for this informaiton. But just to clarify, I am talking
about Visual Basic and you are speaking if Visual Studio...are they the same
thing?

Visual Basic is just one of the languages that come with Visual Studio 6

You have Visual C++, Visual J++, UltraDev, Visual Fox Pro... In fact my
Visual Studio 6 Enterprise came with either 23 or 26 CD's

Visual Basic like the other languages use the same ActiveX (OCX) controls &
they need that reg file to license the controls. In SP 6 those controls have
just been updated & in SP 4 the ADODB control was added for connection to
Access 2000 databases etc.

I really don't know what to suggest because in the past I have had machines
in the past that when you apply the reg file it doesn't license the controls
& you get the message box stating this when you either add at design time or
when you run the application. But this is the problem. Maybe creating a
setup application using the built-in Installshield Installer that maybe be
able to rectify this situation for you

Dear NC,
What I am trying to get installed is the mschrt20.ocx file which is required
by Commence for their forms designer component. Can I just download and
install it, rahter then the whole applicaiton?

Aha. Its the chart control, but you still need the license file

I mentioned the installer from VS 6 Ent because it would help you along,
that's all.

Will look for the control for you & add to this post that control, but you
will need to configure this newsgroup via Outlook Express to download it

Ill look for the license file on CD 3 for you too

Not sure if its the file you need

Add it to your System32 directory & then use START/RUN regsvr32 mschrt20.ocx
to see if you can register it

problem and the form designer is working as intended.
