Collection installed applications
Hi,
There are actually two ways you can detect the application. Either with
Software Inventory which is very inefficient when you have many clients, or
by Hardware Inventory when/if the application creates a registry entry.
Please keep in mind that the client will only report any changes on their
hardware/software inventory for whichever method you select, and that the
changes will not be visible until the inventory is processed and added to
the database. Once the application information is added to the database
the Collection Evaluator will evaluate the collection membership on its
next scheduled occurrence and the new member would be visible.
You may find that a 15 minute collection membership update is unrealistic
and causes too much load on the database.
Best regards,
Mark

| Create a collection that queries every 15 minutes for a
| specific file(from software inventory) that identifies the
| installed application. Of course if your inventory cycle
| is set to the default of 1 week then any clients that
| installed your application may not end up in your
| collection for at least a week in some cases. You could
| always increase your inventory cycle but that may not be a
| good idea if you have a large number of clients.
