Default Compact Flash versus SDIO

Greetings,

Here's a newbie question for you. Why have both types of expansion slots on
PPC? I know the obvious answer to that, so you can have a WiFi card and a
memory card plugged in at the same time. But why 2 different formats? Is one
better suited for storage and the other for IO? Why not just have 2 of the
same type of slots?

It seems like it would be better for all of us if one of the many memory
card formats would emerge as the clear winner. So many devices take
different formats and you wind up buying way more cards than you actually
need at any one time.

Just curious

The idea is flexibility.

Most IO cards today are in CF format. Although there are some cards today in
SDIO format, still the main use is memory.
Having both would give you the flexibility of being able to use IO cards in
your PPC without having to remove your memory card. Very important for many
people.

i have a toshiba e750 with 2 slots i have a sd and a cf .. if i do a backup
on my cf card it takes about 2 min .. if i do it on the SD card it takes
about 5 to 8 min .. so im guessing that the CF card is a lot faster for some
reason ..

It's also a question of cost and availability : you can find many more IO
cards in CF format than in SDIO and the CF cards ( including memoty cards )
are a lot cheaper.
But of course SD cards are a lot smaller than CF and it would be difficult
to put 2 CF slot in a small-sized, modern Pocket PC.
