Default Customized SMS 2003 hw inventory issue

I have modified my sms_def.mof to include a new class. I copied the mof file
to all site servers in my heirarchy, logged onto each server and compiled
the mof to ensure there were no errors at any of the sites. I checked the
sms\data\hinvarchive directory to ensure that it had not been marked as bad.
From the do***entation, I am expecting the advanced clients in my heirarchy
to recieve the change via policy and start reporting. I also compiled the
mof on one client machine. The one machine is the only one that has reported
the new class. The client machines assigned site and my 'rollup' site both
show the expected table in SQLServer. However, no other clients have
reported the new class.

How does the new class get into WMI on the client? Do I need to setup a pkg
to compile the new mof on each client or should the advanced client take
care of this?

Thanks.

Is the new class that you added to the defmof a registry provider class or a
custom provider class?
If so, then the definition needs to be mofcompiled on the client(maybe via a
package), if not, the policy should make the Inventory agent on the client
collect it

Check the InventoryAgent.log on the client and check to see if there is a
query for collecting from the class that you added. Lets' say you added
Win32_DisplayConfiguration - search the log for Win32_DisplayConfiguration,
if the log has a line, check tosee if that query executed successfully, and
if so, check the data for that class in WMI - maybe that class does not have
any instances in WMI

Hope this helps!

The class uses the registry provider. I will try compiling it on a few
clients that have the reg keys I am looking for and see if that does it. I
was thinking that I would have to put together a pkg to do the mofcomp on
the client to get the new class definitions, but was hoping it would be done
by the client automatically. SMS 2 used to do this for us, so it is a
change. The do***entation is not very clear on this.

Thanks for your help!
