deleting files

I'm having problems deleting a program (screen saver application) I installed
last night. I's a setup prg telling me can't delete because of it's usage by
another person or program. It's on the desktop, I've tried to RT Click Delete
which brings up the previous msg. and I've tried Control Panel "Add Remove"
doesn't work either

Start your computer in safe mode and then uninstall the program

I downloaded a file yesterday and now I cannot delete it. The error message
reads: cannot delete file, cannot read from source file or disk. This was an
executable file, where when clicked would create a pdf file to print. The pdf
files were able to be deleted but these were not. How can I get rid of these
files?
