Diffrences amoung Node type

Hi, Can someone give some examples when I would use the following node types
0x8 and 0x2.
For example if my server has a static IP address assigned should I use Node
type 0x2 or 0x8 or perhaps can you advise what is the best practice
settings for server and desktop in regards to these node type..
