Default DNS

For some reason I can not see all of my computer names in
My Network Places in the Domain. Not sure if this is a
DNS problem or not?????? Has anyone ever seen this and if
so how can I fix it or has any one seen any white papers
on this problem?

Network Neighborhood uses NetBIOS, for computers to be in Nethood, you need
NetBIOS over TCP/IP, WINS, or NetBEUI (which is not really supported
anymore)

Check your TCP/IP settings on the WINS tab to see if NetBIOS is enabled over
TCP/IP

Personally, I moving away from Nethood and I now publish my shares in Active
Directory by the FQDN which IMO is more dependable anyway.

Default DNS

Hi All,

I recently changed our dns database from Verio (US) to Infonet (Luxembourg).
Our NS are pointing to Infonet and propagation is done. However, we are
experiencing some odd problems.

1. We can ping one of our domain names (e.g. http://www.denpat.lu) using the IP
address and its name and we get positive replies but when we try to go to
the page on IE/Netscape we get the HTTP 404 - File not found.

2. We can ping both IP and URL addresses but we cannot browse using the
public IP address. Before we could do that at Verio.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge on this issue.

Ed

Your address resolves to this IP
Name: http://www.denpat.lu
Address: 80.255.160.77
These are the NS records returned which show that apparently this is not a
DNS problem unless the "A" record points to the wrong address.
Non-authoritative answer:
denpat.lu nameserver = influx01.infonet.lu
denpat.lu nameserver = influx02.infonet.lu

influx01.infonet.lu internet address = 80.255.160.5
influx02.infonet.lu internet address = 194.154.200.189

How ever going to that address in my browser I get "No web site is
configured at this address."
This is the message IIS gives when there is no matching IP/Host header
combination if this is the correct address then you need to go into the
website properties and configure the correct IP address and Host Header

You can use the ODBC API to retrieve a list of DSN's search
http://www.google.com/groups for SQLAllocEnv and SQLDataSources.
