Hello,

when my DC starts up, it writes several DNS errors in the event log.

1) 4015 error

The DNS server has encountered a critical error from the
Active
Directory. Check that the Active Directory is functioning properly. The
extended error debug information (which may be empty) is "%1". The event
data contains the error.


2) 4004 errors

The DNS server was unable to complete directory service enumeration of zone
%1. This DNS server is configured to use information obtained from Active
Directory for this zone and is unable to load the zone without it. Check that
the Active Directory is functioning properly and repeat enumeration of the
zone. The extended error debug information (which may be empty) is "%2". The
event data contains the error.

I have a AD Domain with 2 sides and 4 DC's. The problem is only on one DC.
Active Directory works fine also the DNS service.
Evertime i made a restart of the server I can find this errors in eventlog.

On the Server is:

- AD service
- DNS service (active directory integrated zone)
- Exchange Server 2003 SP2
- Windows Server 2003 SP2
- all new updates are installed

Has anyone a solution?

Yes, i have 4 DC's and all of them have a DNS active-directory integrated DNS
zone.
On this server isn't any master role.

Hello Daniel,

Make sure that all DNS servers have a secondary DNS on the NIC to another
domain DNS server. Can you post an unedited ipconfig /all from all DC's.

Are you also use reverse lookup zones? Are all servers listed correct in
the zones on all DNS servers?

Hello Meinolf,

all DNS servers have all 4 DNS servers registres in their NIC's. I've also a
reverse lookup zone from both sides (I have 2 subnets). I just checked the
DNS sturkture and it seems that everthing is OK. All 4 servers are also NS
for de zones.

Hello Daniel,

Change the primary DNS to the other site DNS and itself to secondary. Also
if this error occurs only after startup you can ignore it.
