Just turn down the TTL on the record you are going to change and give it at
least two days to replicate before you change the IP address.

Are you changing the IP address of the Authoritative DNS servers for your
Public Domain?
If you are I would add the new IP to your NS records a few days in advance
at your registrar it will show as an error but when you get the new address
it should already be replicated and will guard against a blackout. Then
after the new address is working just remove the old one.

to throw away all the records after an extended outage of the master
server.
