I get this on one of my DC DNS servers but not the others. the Action
account is set the same as the other servers, WMI is started, the directory
does exist but I still get this error. The class name 'MicrosoftDNS_Server'
did not return any valid instances. Please check to see if this is a valid
WMI class name. This error might have been caused by insufficent MOM response
account privilege, please check to see if the MOM response account have a
high enough privilege to access the WMI namespace.

Anyone have suggestions on what else I can do to stop this error.

We have seen this occasionally in our testing. Do you have any additional
information that you can provide about the error or your environment

Does this event happen regularly?
What script is causing this error?
Does the monitored server have a lot of load on it?

this event happens every hour
The script is Microsoft Operations Manager\Operations Manager 2005\Agents
on all MOM roles\A management pack script was unable to complete
successfully
Question 3 no, the server is only monitoring 7 servers right now and many
rules have been disabled.

I have the same problem I think.
The Source is DNS Service Discovery Script.
The Alert description says: Unable to open WMI namespace...
Agent action account runs as Local System Account.
Management Server Action Account is Domain Admin.
I have two Domain controllers but the error only occures on one.
In the Lab environment there are no such problems.

This could be relevant...
The DNS Service Discovery Script is sheduled to run every 30 minutes.
But the Alert only turns up occasionally (one time so far).
I will keep the alert to track the repeat count and to see when the Events
that fires the Alert comes.

We have the same error in two different mom2005 environments.
The error occured every 30 minutes, when the script runs. We run the DNS
Service on the two DC's and we have this error on both DC's.

Description:

If you can do this troubleshooting, it could give some useful information.

1) Create a task that runs the DNS script. Target it to run on the agent
machine.
2) Restart the WMI service on the machine.
3) Run the task.

In the Tasks Status view, there should be 9898 event (or 9899 if it fails)
when the task finishes that could have more information.

That's interesting! I did this test. I started the Task before and afer a
restart of the WMI Service. Both times the Tasks runs with state successfull
(Event 9898)!!!
The first time the Event "DNS Service Discovery Script" in the Eventlog
occoured too. The second time, the event is gone...

I too created the task and ran it and got 9898 successfull
