Exchange keeps sending EHLO

Hi,

We use Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. There is a problem with the
outgoing mail over SMTP. Sometimes mail is sent ok, but sometimes the
Exchange server starts a connection and keeps sending EHLO's:

Exchange sends:
EHLO server01.fornet.local
EHLO server01.fornet.local
EHLO server01.fornet.local
EHLO server01.fornet.local
EHLO server01.fornet.local
EHLO server01.fornet.local
EHLO server01.fornet.local
EHLO server01.fornet.local
etc.

The smart host responds:
220 cherokee.bit.nl ESMTP
250-cherokee.bit.nl
250-PIPELINING
250 8BITMIME
250-cherokee.bit.nl
250-PIPELINING
250 8BITMIME
250-cherokee.bit.nl
250-PIPELINING
250 8BITMIME
250-cherokee
etc.

I used tcpTrace to dump the traffic. I don't know if I have an
Exchange service pack installed.

Has anyone had this problem? Can it be solved?

Service pack revisions are important to know in this situation. Can you
verify what software revision is installed for OS and Application?
