force clients to contact WUS server

hi all how can i force my XP clients to download and install pathces that are
set for detect only or install?

try from a client command prompt:

gpupdate /force

or the clients update automatically every 90 mins if i remember correctly.

no i mean how to force the AU client to check in with the WUS server I know
how to force a GPO to a client

wuauclt1.exe /detectnow

cool how can you tell by looking at the WUS server that the clinet did
indeed check in to look for patches?

Try this
wuauclt.exe /detectnow

It will update the last checkin time for the client
