Same thing happened to me. I run Word for Windows 97 on a Windows XP system. What answer did you get, Neil?

1.While entering data in a new do***ent, all of sudden a
pop up appers titled: "Microsoft Word for Windows 97
application file"

It states,"Microsoft file has encounteres a problem and
needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. If
you were in the middle of something, the information you
were working on might be lost.
Please tell Microsoft about this problem.
We have created an error report that you can send to us.
We will treat this report as condidential and anonymous.

Consequently, I lose all the data that I labored to
compose and I had to start all over again, with no end.
I relode the Microsoft Office Pofessional and the problem
get corrected for a day or so, but the problem reappears
again.

2. When I try to save a do***ent and use "save as..", I
can't enter the full name of the new file. Only I can
enter the first letter of title. Then a pop-up warning
widow appears stating,

"The program associated with the selected template
cannot be started, or the program cannot use slected
template

OK"

Again I rtelode Microsoft Office 97, professional
Edition. But the problems appears again.
