I am attempting to get a frankenstine HP working
correctly. It the motherboard is not from an HP, but fits
nicely in the 6357 case. The most recent error is
A fatal exception 06 has occurred at 0327:00000209.

It occurred just as the desktop was to appear.

Any polite suggestions?

If there is no consistency or pattern to the error messages then it
may be a hardware related issue. Software problems tend to be
consistent, although sometimes the pattern of events that triggers a
software error may be obscured so that it appears to be random.

One of the best ways to track errors during startup is to do a logged
startup and then use the BootLog ****yzer from
http://www.vision4.dial.pipex.com/ to check out the log file that was
created.
