Default I can't do this, can I?

I would like to install Windows ME in an existing C: W2K system and keep W2k
on the C: partition. But since WME wants the C: partition, I am out of luck.
Yes?

You could, if drive C: is a FAT32 partition rather
than an NTFS partition, but you should not. If
you have two OSs then each should go on its own
partition. Furthermore, if you install WinME ***after**
Win2000 then you will have to repair the Win200
boot environment. It's not hard but it needs to be
done. By the way: Good posts use a meaningful
Subject line, e.g. "Installing WinME on a Win2000 PC".

Thanks for your help, which is always excellent (as it was here). I do
appreciate it.

I can now decide among my three options:

1. Give it up. Yeck.
2. Face the worms that come with two OS's on one partition. Yuck.
3. Trash the existing system and build a proper two-OS system. Ick.

All three of them suck, although I lean toward #3, since I do it an awful
lot.

Go pick up aluminum cans for an hour, you can probly get enough money to
buy a decent new hard disk, install and set up on that.

If it's #3 you're leaning towards then consider doing it right
and get a proper boot manager. I recommend XOSL. It's free.

Pegasus,

Thanks for the tip. I downloaded XOSL and will explore it. I am going to
build a multiboot system.

There are several 3rd party boot loaders that will allow this.
Check http://www.v-com.com I would send then an email.
System Commander and/or Partition Commander.

Thanks, Bob, but I got the two-OS system working fine, with WME installed
first and W2K very carefully installed second.
