I need to "transfer" my DNS server

Hi all

Apologies for posting in more than 1 group as i do not know which group is
the ideal one to post in

I'm decominishning my old exchange 2003 box. I have transferred all the
mailboxes. The old box is the internal DNS server of the company. Any of you
know of any good links that i can follow to make the new box the DNS server
before shutting down the old box please?

Can i follow something like this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/323383 or
any of you that know of better links please?

Is it just a caching dns server or does it hold your internal namespace?

I presume it is not a Domain Controller?

Yes, the old and the new server are DC's

Yes, it is a DC

Well ensure you're other DC's have DNS installed and you can see your active
directory zones. MSCS and the standard lookup zone, example mscs.contoso.com
and contoso.com

If client and server machines are use the IP of this server for DNS then you
will have to manually update them or add this IP to your other DC once you
decommission it.

Alternatively if you are using DHCP you can update your settings here.
Staticly set Servers if not defined with within the DHCP scope using the
'burned in MAC' feature you will still have to update manually - or script.

Hello MSExchangeStudent,

Open DNS management console and mark the forward/reverse lookup zone, in
the right pane yo see the kind of zone's. If AD integrated just install DNS
on the new server and wait fro replication, at least 15 minutes, and you
are done. If not change the zone to AD integrated and then install DNS on
the new one.
