Default IE5setup.exe - error with IE5WZD

I have got my IE versions all messed up. My system think
4.01 but the browser think 2.0.

I want to restall 5.5 but I get an error with IE5WZD.

I have downloaded ie55sp1.exe but nothing happens when I
double click.

Could someone PLEASE tell me how to delete all IE versions
and then re-install 5.5sp1?

I do not want to format and start again. Any help will be
appreciated.

The "ie55sp1.exe" file to which you refer is probably a self-
extracting executable. Find the folder to which you down-
loaded it and you will probably find all the installation files.
Just double-click the "ie5setup.exe" file.

Try extracting fresh copies of the following files from your
Windows CD to the Windows\System or System32 folder.
I suggest you save copies of the original files.

MPR.DLL
ADVAPI32.DLL
SHELL.DLL
VER.DLL

Thanks Ben.
I will give it a try and let you know.
I sure hope it works. Netscape is slow and difficult.

All files listed below are in the Windows\System folder and
all are dated 7/11/1995.

Any other ideas? I was thinking about deleting all Internet
Explorer files and trying to reinstall. However, because of
the ties between Windows and IE, I am afraid I will get the
system so bad that it would not boot back up. Is there a
safe way to delete IE?

Any help will be appreciated.

You might try reinstalling IE4, then upgrading to IE5.5.

I don't think removing Internet Explorer will help, but you
can try it.
