Default Installing Client Tools on Workstation

Just completed installation of SQLServer 2000 on a Win2003 Server with no
problems.

I also want to be able to manage SQL Server from my Workstation (WinXP SP1).
Does this mean that all I need to install are the client tools that come on
the same CD? How do I then connect to the SQLServer instance that I just
created? Unfortunately the books I have on SQLServer don't appear to
cccover this aspect at all.

Sorry if my query seems a little bit basic, but I'd really appreciate any
help on this.

TIA

Mo

To install just the client tools from the install CD

Open your CD drive in Windows Explorer
Double Click on Autorun.exe
Choose SQL Server 2000 Components
Choose Install Database Server
When the Install Dialog comes up click Next 5 times
Choose client tools only
Continue with the install

In order to connect to the server you need basic connectivity so make sure
you can ping and netview the server. If so you should be able to register it
in EM just using the server name assuming you have access to the server.

Install the client tools on your machine. Go to
start/programs/microsoft SQL Server/Enterprise manager.
Open Microsoft SQL Servers, right click SQL Server group
and choose new registration. Here enter the servername (or
instance name) and however you can connect to the sql
server (SQL account or your own windows authentication).
From there, you should be able to manager to maneuver
around the server. I highly reccomend referring to books-
online (BOL) as often as possible.
