We have setup a Web Site using IIS5.0 running on Win2k Advanced server. On
our web site, there is a section the user needs to logon with user ID and
password. Right now, we set that section using Integrated Windows
Authentication method on IIS.

Currently, we have some clients cannot acces that section. When the user
click on the link to that section, their browser (IE5 or IE6) display an
unauthorized user error message without prompting the logon dialog.

Can anyone help me to troubleshoot on this?

There should be a detailed error code and description at the bottom of the
page. The error code most likely starts with a 401 or a 403. What is that
error code?

Do the clients that aren't working have anything in common? Are they all
members of the same group? Are they all non-administrators? Are they
accessing the site from a particular machine or group of machines? Etc...

Hello Lisa,

The error code is 401.2. Unauthorized: Logon fail due to server
configuration.

All the user are in the same user group, which we created specially for
our client to be able to download from our web site. I check with other
client in the group, they do not have that problem. All the user in that
group is not a member of administrators. The clients all access the site
with a paticluar group of machines. The PCs are either Windows XP or
Windows 98 with IE5 or IE6 installed.
