I have win98se as an OS, I use AOL as my ISP and the
connection is cable broadband. My problem is when I go to
sign on there is a long pause (5-10 min) at "connecting to
the internet". Does any know why it takes so long to
intiate the modem (if that is the problem)?

problem. Your modem is always connected to the Internet
if you don't power it down. If there is too much RF in
the line or your cable provider has the line amp turned
up too high your cable modem will take time to amp up and
get a request out. Try doing an ipconfig /release and
renew before your try the Internet. If you have a hard
time getting an IP or don't get an IP it is a sure bet
you have a cable problem. Go to Start, Run and type in
winipcnfg. Do a release and renew.

into setting, control panel and then going to add/remove
prgrams panel then going into windows set up and seeing if
you can find and add/remove the component. The problem
with mine is I dont have any components. SO Im stuck
