Default MP upgrade & lost notification setup

Hi

I did an upgrade of a couple of my MOM 2005 MPs a while ago.

I just now noticed that all my notification setup were gone.
I though that it should retain that information during upgrade?

Any comments are appreciated.

Thanks.

What actually disappeared?
Were operators deleted?
Were custom notification groups deleted?
Did operator memebership in notification groups disappear?

Hi James

Any responses I configure for any given rules are removed when I upgrade the
MP.
For example, I have set up a lot of e-mail notifications and they are all
gone after I
upgraded the MP.

Should it be like this by design?

There are 3 MP import options (2 in the UI an extra via command line)

The UI options are Replace (which completely replaces the rules and
responses) and Update (which is like replace except that it keeps new rules,
company knowledge and enable/disable rule settings).

If you want to keep other settings you have to import with Merge (which is
only available from command line: managementmoduleutil.exe)

Hi Bill

I tried with the CLI utility using -I -F, but with the same result as
before. All my response notifications configuration are gone.

Any other ideas on how to upgrade my MPs without loosing the response
configurations?

Thanks.

The -F option of the CLI is equivalent to the Update option in the UI. If
you want merge from the command line use -I without either -R or -F.

Hi Bill

Thanks for your reply.

It looks like the import worked better with only the -I switch on. However,
there seams to be some version issues with the "Microsoft SQL Server 2000
MOM 2005 MP.EXE". It says on the MS web site that it is version
05.0.2803.0000 (.akm file date Oct 20 2004), but in my MOM console, it says
only version 05.0.2756.0000. I have tried to import the MP several times,
and also downloaded it again from MS web, but it is still the same.
Any thoughts?

And another question: What about the reports that are bundled with the new
MPs? Do I have to import them the normal GUI way to be able to take
advantages of any new features?

Thanks.

For reports, yes, import the new reports if they've changed (you can use the
gui or a command line utility rptutil.exe)

The MP on the web really is version 2803 (I checked). However, since you
have 2746 in your machine and are doing a merge, you won't see the version
change. We changed the version as part of our export process so the
LastModified time on the rule group was never changed. As far as import is
concerned no change was made to the rule group (or the current rule has a
newer last modified date) so the version won't be updated.

But was this the case for the SQL 2000 MP only?
I merged several other MPs, like MOM 2005 MP, Exchange MP, etc, and they
were updated with the new version number 2803.
It is only the SQL 2000 MP that is giving me the wrong version number.

Thanks.
