Default MS03-031 issue

After installing the hotfix on sql server 2000 sp3/windows
2000 there is a problem when altering a standard ID login
under security. once you go to database access and make
the necessary changes and click ok it requests a password
confirmation. retype your password and it returns a
message that "Confirmation password is not correct." This
error resurfaced even after a reboot. A co-worker is
experiencing the same issue after the patch install on her
machine.

The current work-around will have to be: to change the
user role, return to the General tab and retype the
correct password and then confirm. If you make a change
to the database user account within the database itself
there isn't an issue, only with logins.

So, how can this be resolved prior to putting this into
production on our thousands of servers and countless
standard logins?

There is also the named pipes access denied issue when you apply the
patch to SQL Server running on NT4. See KB article 823492. That's two
fairly annoying bugs introduced by one patch.
