MTA Stacks running on FE Servers?

Is this service necessary? After I have completed configuration of my FE
servers the service will no longer start. Everything seems to work fine
however. Just curious since I cannot find anything do***ented about its use
on this kind of server.

These are OWA/POP3/IMAP/non SMTP frontends? Then you dont' need to worry
about it. MTA Stacks are for moving messages cross platform (exch 55 to
exch2k/2k3).
