Default multi-homed server

One of the servers in my domain shall get a connection to another domain.
The server is a print server for my domain.
The connection is to let user from the other domain print to some of the
printers.
How shall I configure DNS for this server?
The internal network card shall use my DNS. This I understand.
Shall the external network card use the DNS of the other domain?
Do I have to establish any kind of trust between the two domain?
I hope to avoid it. I only want to allow them to print.

Rolf

Always only use YOUR internal DNS.

If the other domain is NOT of your forest, then you can create an external
trust between them. External trusts rely on NetBIOS name resolution, and not
DNS. To insure resolution, you may need to use WINS if the other domain is
on another subnet, since NetBIOS names will not traverse a router.

This means that I shall use my internal WINS for the internal network card,
and WINS from the other domain for the external network card. DNS and
Default Gateway shall only be configured on the internal network card.
Am I correct?

Actually, no. You'll want to use your own WINS on both NICs. Setup a
push/pull partnership from your WINS server to the other one. Otherwise, it
will cause problems since both will think they are the owner of the record,
especially in a partnership scenario.

it

record,

My WINS server will not be able to communicate with the WINS server on the
other network, unless I enable routing on the print server. (Or install WINS
on the print server).
Since the two WINS server cannnot see each other, there will be no problem
about who owns the records, as far as I can see.

I'm somewhat confused about this now. All I want to do is to let users on
the other network use some of my printers.

Then your best bet seems to be to create a static WINS entry on their WINS
server for your print server.
