Default Music too fast with W2000

My Dell 4300 at work was recently upgraded from ME to 2000 Professional.
Now, CD's played with either Windows Media Player 9 or iTunes go 17% too
fast. In other words, in 60 seconds I hear what should take 70 seconds.
This not only speeds up the music but also raises the pitch. This occurs
whether I am playing directly from the CD or after importing to the computer.
What's going on here and how do I fix it?

What I did to upgrade from WinME to Win2K (several years ago) was to
wipe my hard disk and do a clean install of Win2K (formatting as NTFS),
then reinstall all my applications and user data. It was a lot of work
but well worthwhile. By the way my music plays at the right speed.

Usual cause is that the incorrect soundcard driver was installed, either
by "auto" mis-recognizing the card or "win-update" being allowed to
install the incorrect driver. Determine/identify the card and install
the correct driver from the manufacture of the card or motherboard if an
integrated sound chip.

Try updating your audio drivers.

Thank you Bob I. It was the sound card driver.
