Default No SharePoint 3.0 over the Internet

Here's a question for the assembled experts: I recently added SharePoint 3.0
on SBS 2003 in a side-by-side configuration (via the Microsoft instructions).
Everything is working fine, love the new system, etc EXCEPT when I try to
access it outside the LAN. Outside the firewall it comes up as Page Not Found
but inside it works just fine. I have opened up the port it uses, and all the
other server resources are working (companyweb, OWA, RWW, etc) over the
Internet. But no new SharePoint...

Also, when I try to connect via my Windows Mobile 5 device to the mobile
version of the site, it asks for my username and password, then says either
"The page you are looking for cannot be found due to unknown error
0x80070005." or "The remote host has ended this connection."

Any ideas? Other questions? Would really appreciate your advice.

Thank you,
Allen

how are you trying to access it from outside?
Did you configure the alternate access mapping?

Just found out about alternate access mapping, and now it works like a charm.
Thanks for your help!

Default No SharePoint 3.0 over the Internet

Hello all,

I'll soon be studying the information about alternate access mappings, but I
have a question that is somewhat related. I'll explain:

- I have WSS 3.0 running on a web server available to all LAN users.
- My Active Directory FQDN is "Keyano.local"
- Internally, the Sharepoint site URL is http://myKeyano/ (and we've
configured this hostname in our DNS and it's working very well).
- Externally however, I'd like the URL to be http://my.Keyano.ca/ but with
Windows Authentication enabled (anonymous access disabled) the Login dialog
box pops open and the FQDN is "keyano.ca". Therefore my users have to
manually type KEYANO\user.name and I would like very much for the "KEYANO\"
realm to be assumed automatically so that the user need only type their
username.

I believe I need to resolve this problem before I deal with alternate access
mappings. Any tips would be appreciated.

Regards.
