Default .OFT template explanation, please!

I have never been able to get this thing to work right in
this environment:
We have 150 unread emails sitting in a subdirectory of
the Inbox called HR (job posting responses.) I want to
send out a generic "autoreply" to these existing emails,
as well as new ones inbound. I set up a rule in the Rules
Wizerd as such:
"Apply this rule after message arrives with HR in the
recipients address reply using blah\blah\blah\mail.oft.
(Default template and path)
I have opened that mail.oft file (opens like a blank
message) and edited it, and saved it. (I have also tried
this with a user-defined template..??) No specific "TO:"
value was put in since this would be a reply to the
sender anyhow. Upon receipt of an email, nothing happens.
I don't want to try "Run This Now" on the valid responses
until I make sure the reply is working properly and
formatted correctly.
Am I missing something really basic (and essential) here??

Thanks a ton,

~Ralph

Sometimes rules don't fire automatically. I would put test message in one folder and try Run Rule Now against that message. Note that Outlook's autoreply will reply just once per sender during any given Outlook session.

Also, when you "saved" mail.oft, did you use File, Save As? If you didn't, your changes were saved as an individual Outlook item and didn't update the template.

Thanks, Sue.
[1] Am I wrong in assuming the template would be sent out
each time a new message comes in that satisifies the rule
that was set? In other words, since each incoming message
(in this case) would have a different source address,
shouldn't the template go out each time- different
Outlook session or not?

[2] Does this process NOT place an item in the "Sent"
folder after the template is sent out?

Thanks again!

~Ralph

1) As I said, Outlook replies only once per sender per Outlook session. If each message has a different sender, each message will get a reply.

2) I don't remember whether you get an item in Sent Items. Should be easy enough for you to test.
