Outlook 2002 Contact screen locks pc when adding user

I have two users who each have 4000 plus contacts in their contacts
folder. We are using Exchange 2K and do not save pst's locally.
Occasionally when adding new contacts (each contact may have a few
paragraphs of descriptive text)they lock up the pc which is running
Win XP with 386 MB of ram. Their exchange mailboxes are not over 1GB.
Any solution?
