Default OWA URL Redirect

We just recently setup ISA Server 2004 to publish OWA and it's working
beautifully, however, the URL is a little ***bersome for our users to
remember. Our URL is something like https://mail.domain.com/exchange. Is
it possible to create some sort of URL redirect so users can just use
http://mail.domain.com and have it go to https://mail.domain.com/exchange,
eliminating the need for typing https instead of http and typing /exchange?

You can probably configure a customized hyperlink to point to the OWA
address but then you would need to email it out to everyone. Easiest
solution would be to register a FQDN with your ISP. Here's how I do it.

My company website is http://companyname.com
I registered a FQDN that is associated with my external IP gocompanyname.com
My users get to my OWA by typing https://gomycompanyname.com/exchange
I also use the RQDN to get to my Citrix server by typing
http://gomycompanyname.com
and can also get to my RWW by typing https://gomycompanyname.com/remote
They can also get to our internal companyweb from the outside by typing
https://gomycompanyname.com:444

Hope this helps.

See my wish-list at microsoft.public.isa.wishlist regarding:
Automatically redirect HTTP request to HTTPS within Secure Web Publishing
rules

Hi Philip,

Your solution is unsecure! For that you have to publish the HTTP protocol.
When you enter a subpath in the URL you bypass your SSL certificate, wich
compromises security.

There is another workaround wich I don't like....
In ISA Server 2004 secure web publishing rules you can enable a feature:
"Notify HTTP users to use HTTPS instead". That feature does not solve your
problem, but you can edit that page on the ISA Server to redirect. With that
soluction you are unable to connect through HTTP at a subpath in the URL,

Hi Phillip,

Don't get me wrong. We only intend to help Karine with her question.
I agree that users can use a fovorites, but on the intranet you have to use
a different one. (split-DNS)

In your solution you can enter a subpath http://mail.domain.com/exchange
wich bypasses the redirection to SSL.

I therefore hope that Microsoft adds a new feature to Secure Web Publishing
by redirecting before accessing the actual webserver.

Kind regards,

Boudewijn

Default OWA URL Redirect

Internal network http://owa.yourcomapny.com/exchange [10.100.0.1]
Internal DNS zone (part of split-DNS)

External network https://owa.yourcompany.com/exchange [192.86.0.240]
External DNS zone (part of split-DNS)

Users like to enter "owa.yourcompany.com" into their browser and
Administrators
do not want http traffic to pass through from external network to internal
network.

redirection from the website means http is being passed through to the
webserver
therefore, automatic redirection should be doen from by ISA Server
