Default Page File, Virtual Memory?

Is it true to double the amount of memory and set that
number as the default size.

No! There is no set-in-stone rule of thumb; only overall guiding
principals. The old RAMN x 2 rule of thumb was reasonable for older NT4
machines that came w/ 64 or 128MB of RAM. But now, in the days of 512MB
and 1GB as the starting point, RAM x 2 is almost always overkill.
Likewise, the MS recommendation of RAM x 1.5 is often overkill. On any
machine w/ 256MB RAM or more, RAM+12 is a good starting point unless you
know you will be CAD'ing and doing virtual wind tunnel tests for
Porsche. In which case, you need way more RAM than 256MB!
