Default Patch Management

We have a unique environment where our Internet connection is controlled by a physical switch. Our LAN cannot at any tiome be connected to the Internet. The switch physically enables/disables connection to only the LAN or Internet. When the SMS server is disconnected from the LAN and connected to the Internet it loses its DHCP assigned IP address. This is an obvious problem which has forced us to use SUS for patch management. But we would really prefer to use SMS for obvious reasons. How do you suggest we go about configuring this to harmonise with our LAN/Internet connection policy?

I recommend downloading MSSECURE.CAB on anothed, Internet-connected
computer, and transfer it manually using some removable media (i like using
USB disk).
When building package, in Wizard choose "...I will download patches
manually", remmber exact location for your patches, and download and
transfer them manually in the same way as "CAB".

Why is a server using DHCP and not a static IP?

I would love to know why you have this physical swicth on your network as
well if you could explain that.
