Default POPUPS

Your computer may have been hijacked. For information about pop-up windows,
how to get rid of them, and prevent them in the future have a look at the
link below:

David,

Look at her "newsreader"

Also note that there is no References: header in her post.
Hence the post is in a new thread.

FYI The web interface doesn't group posts with the same Subject:
together the way that Outlook Express does.

If you want to refer OP to a previous thread with the same Subject:
with the expectation that they will find it grouped with a current thread
you have to do it with reference to either OE or (sometimes)
via Google Groups.

Fortunately, this is an example where one of the latter is available: <
http://groups.google.com/groups?dq=&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&threadm=0bef01c3454c%24e641d150%24a501280a%40phx.gbl&rnum=1&prev=/groups%3Fq%3Dmsgid%253A0bef01c3454c%2524e641d150%2524a501280a%40phx.gbl%26ie%3DUTF-8%26oe%3DUTF-8%26hl%3Den >

(Google Groups search for msgid: prefixed with her Message-ID
and then click on < Complete Thread...articles > )

BTW the latter procedure may be easier for a web interface user
to find that thread because they also can't "click" on any links that
OE (or Google Groups) users may happen to "see".

Alternatively you could refer to the previous thread by date and time.
Then web interface users would find the post that you see as "one above"
13 pages (!) from the one that they were on.

Ahh ok, didn't realise that was the case. I'm used to using Outlook.

I have read all the replies to get rid of these popups. I
have went and put All Other Users under my block list
(thinking this would be the best option) and still get the
popups. The firewall option I'm afraid of since we do
network programs. Another option I read was programs like
popupbuster but I refuse to add a program to stop
something that should be able to be addressed by the
program. I guess I will try the disable messenger option
I read from John Wolf's reply but still wonder why the
block all doesn't work.

For Messenger Service ads:
You need to install or enable a firewall:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;Q330904

Disabling Messenger Service can be a good idea, but it does not solve the
real problem.

The ads are not the real problem, the ads are only a symptom of a larger
issue. The real problem is open ports that allow unwanted traffic into the
computer.

Disabling Messenger does nothing for the open ports. You would need a
firewall that controls the traffic.

The above solution will not work if you have AOL as is not compatible with
Windows XP Internet Connection Firewall (ICF). If you have AOL, you should
contact AOL and/or get a 3rd party firewall.

Disable Messenger Service:
Start/Control Panel, click Administrative Tools, click Services.
Go down to "Messenger".
Right click "Messenger" and select Properties.
Hit the Stop Button under Service Status section
Then under Start-up select DISABLE
Click OK and follow prompts

Check this link:

Run Ad-Aware (free version) or Spybot to check for spyware:

Or

For internet pop-ups, try one of these:
