Default Remote Desktop

I am trying to connect to my home computer from my office.
My home computer is on a DSL line, and my office computer
has a 56k connection. When I try to connect I get the
message "The client could not connect to the remote
computer. Remote connections may not be enabled...". I
already checked and both computers accept remote desktop
connections under System Properties. I set up an VPN
connection using the home computer's IP address, but for
some reason it's not connecting. Does the DSL server have
anything to do with it? Is it the defalt gateway of the
DSL that I need to put into Remote Desktop? How do I get
this thing to connect!
