Default Route problem, no ping on local addresses

Hi All,

I've got this weird thing. I've setup a Compaq Armada 4120 +
dockingstation with an UTP cable to my Netgear RT314 gateway router.
The laptop/dockingstation combo was used on another LAN before, so I know
the NIC works.
Now, I've setup the Netgear box to act as DHCP server, which it happily
does. The laptop get's its IP address just fine and its routing table
looks just fine.
So when I ping _outside_ the the local subnet, I see traffic on the wire
and the management console of the Netgear box. But when I ping the Netgear
box itself or any other address on the _local_ subnet, I see no traffic
on the wire?! Pinging from the Netgear box's management interface get's
traffic on the wire, but no response from tha laptop.

What's wrong with the routing here? Is it something in Win95's registry?

Thanx for your time
Jaap
