Default Save state question

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but what purpose does Save State serve? I
would think that the guest should keep running while the state is saved,
kinda like hitting the Save button in Word or Excel. But that doesn't seem
to be how it works. It seems that when I save the state, it essentially
freezes the guest. The guest is not available - I can't do any more work on
until I restore it.

I just don't get it. How is this function useful?

I basically want to be able to save a snapshot, keep working, and if
something gets honked up, restore the snapshot.

Thanks!

Save state allows you to resume operation of the guest sooner than would a
startup. It is a lot like hibernation. There are times when I want to
suspend operation of a guest, perhaps for several days, while I wait for
some event or information (such as what to do in response to an error
message). It allows me to free resources while I wait.

While Snapshot is not a shutdown option, if Undo Disk is enabled in the
settings, you do have the option to save or discard the changes made in the
current session. For that reason, I shutdown and save changes before 'major
surgery'. I understand that is an easier decision with a client than a
server, but it is still useful.

Ahhh, OK - that makes sense. I guess I was just confused by the name.
Perhaps they should have called it "Suspend" or "Hibernate" or something
more obvious for dunces like me. ;-)

Thanks!
