those little red x's

help! how do i get rid of all those little red x's
invading my screens. when i right click a drop down box
opens and i can pick show pictures. its very frustrating.
i have gone to tools,advanced,multimedia,show pictures. i
click on it but it doesnt fix the problem? anyone??
