Unknown file attribute: C

Some of the users in our school network (2003 server + XP workstations) have
added a C attribute to some files, and information about these files appear
in blue. Does anybody know how they do that?

I would imagine that's the "compressed" attribute - and there's an option in
Folder Settings somewhere that says "Display compressed files and folders in
an alternate colour".
