I have installed MSBA 1.2 on multiple machines across my network. From
Server 2000, to Server 2003, to Windows XP Pro, to Windows 2000 Pro.
Everything installs correctly, they all have the latest XML Parsers installed
(4.0), and the scans seem to run correctly. All the machines scanned are
there in the "Pick a security report to view", however, when chosen, the
"View Secuirty Report" screen is blank.

I have scoured the internet searching for information on this and I am at a
total loss. I don't know where to turn and it looks like I'll be running
hfnetchk to see what patches are missing in the meantime.

If anyone has ANY idea on what may be wrong, please post ASAP.

Does your domain name or machine name contain a "&" character?

Scan Reports Do Not Display in MBSA


Customer reports that completed scan reports do not display in the MBSA GUI
when the domain name or computer name contain an "&" sign.

This is an issue we discovered after we shipped MBSA 1.2 (MBSA bug 1702)
that we won't be able to fix in the current release.

As a workaround, the customer can replace instances of the "&" character
with either a "" <nothing> or replacing it with "&amp;" - which will allow
it to be viewed through the MBSA report display.

Doug,

You nailed it on the head. We do have an amper-sand in our
domain name. I tried the fixes you mentioned, but it only worked if I opened
up all the XML scans and replaced any instance of our domain name "G&B" w/
"GB". Kind of a pain, but what are you going to do.

With that in mind, when is the next version coming out? I saw
we could sign up for the 2.0 Beta, would my issue make me a good candidate?
Any further guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Tyson,

Please do nominate yourself for the MBSA 2.0 beta. This specific issue
should be tested in the new version and you are a good candidate for that
reason.
