Default Viewing my ftp site, externally?

I hope this is the right newsgroup to ask this.

I am attempting to access my ftp site for testing purposes, by typing my
external ip address in the address bar of IE. I'm using a Netgear

RP614 router with a cable modem, and have tried setting up different ports
using port forwarding, including the default port of 21. Is this the

wrong way to go about this. I'm able to access my ftp internally, no
problem.

If I want to make sure my ftp site is accessable, I have to ask a friend or
friends to try it from their computers, and they can log on without

any problems. What a hassle! Is this normal?

Thanks in advance for any replies or suggestions.

I'm not sure if this matter, but I should mention that I'm using Faststream
Netfile Server.
